Travel guide for a trip in New York City
I'm a big fan of New York City. I've traveled there countless times, and it's always been a fantastic experience. But if you're planning your first trip to the Big Apple, you might be wondering how best to maximize your short time in this bustling metropolis. After all, there are so many things to do here! Luckily for you—and me—I've already done most of them and can give you some tips on how to make the most out of your time in this iconic city.
Yankee Stadium
Yankee Stadium is a stadium located in the Bronx, New York City. It is the home field for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). The ballpark was built as a replacement for their previous home, Hilltop Park, which was located just north on River Avenue and which had been their home since 1913.
The stadium's construction began in August 1922 as soon as demolition finished on its predecessor; however it wasn't until April 1923 when sufficient progress had been made so that construction could be publicly announced. The site chosen for Yankee Stadium was just south of what was then called "Home Plate Pond" (now called Harlem Meer), an artificial lake owned by Cornelius Vanderbilt II that had been created by him in 1838 along with nearby buildings like Dodge House and Grand Central Terminal.
Visiting the Empire State Building
If you're planning to visit the Empire State Building, there are a few things you should know. First of all, it's best to buy tickets in advance--you can do so online or at the top of the Empire State Building (if there are any remaining). If you're visiting during tourist season and want to see the views from up high but don't have time for lines or waiting around for hours on end, consider buying express passes or pre-purchasing tickets online before your trip.
The observation deck is open from 8:00 AM until 2:00 AM daily except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Eve (when it closes at 7:00 PM). You'll need identification when purchasing tickets; children under 5 years old are not allowed onto this level due to safety concerns! Don't forget about taking selfies while up here--the views will be amazing!
Enjoying Central Park
Central Park is one of the most famous places in New York City. It's a great place to take a walk, go for a run, or just enjoy the view. There are many different things to do in Central Park:
- Go on a bike ride with friends and family!
- Have fun at one of the many events that happen there throughout the year (examples include Shakespeare in the Park.
- If you're lucky enough to visit during summertime, then you can even enjoy some outdoor concerts or take an ice cream cone with friends at one of these awesome ice cream shops near Central Park.
Strolling along the High Line
The High Line is a 1.45-mile-long (2.33 km) linear park built on an abandoned railroad spur, located on the West Side of Manhattan, between 10th and 12th Avenues. This elevated greenway features tree-covered raised walkways and has been called "the city's first major public park in more than a generation." The High Line was designed by James Corner Field Operations with Piet Oudolf serving as the landscape architect. Since opening in 2009 it has become one of New York City's most popular attractions with over 4 million visitors each year.
Riding the Staten Island Ferry
The Staten Island Ferry is a great way to see New York Harbor, as well as the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. You can ride it from either Manhattan or Staten Island, but I recommend starting at Battery Park in lower Manhattan so you can enjoy views of both Manhattan and Brooklyn before heading out into open water. If you're visiting during the summer months, there are plenty of options for eating on board--and since this is one of my favorite things about taking ferries across oceans (and lakes), it would be difficult for me not to mention them here!
If your time in NYC allows for an afternoon excursion away from Central Park or Broadway shows, consider taking a trip out to Snug Harbor Botanical Garden & Historic House Museum on Staten Island's east coast. This beautiful garden offers visitors plenty of shade trees (perfect after being out in hot temperatures all day), plus seasonal flowers throughout springtime through fall seasons--not only do these flowers look amazing against blue skies but they also smell wonderful too! There's even an outdoor amphitheater where concerts take place during summer months; if nothing else though just wandering around exploring each section within this large park can make anyone feel relaxed enough so they don't want go home right away!
Taking a tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the world's largest and most important art museums. It has more than 2 million works of art in its collection, ranging from ancient Egyptian masterpieces to contemporary paintings by Picasso and Warhol. The Met was founded in 1870 as an organization dedicated to bringing great works of art to Americans who couldn't travel overseas--and although it still does this today (with free admission), its locations have expanded beyond just one building in New York City: You can now find them all over the world!
The museum is open 365 days a year from 10 am until 5:30 pm (except Christmas Eve). There are special exhibitions and events throughout the year; some notable ones include Fashion Icons: From Dior's New Look To Now; Van Gogh Alive!: The Experience Of A Lifetime; Water Works: Rethinking California's Coastline And Beyond; The World Stage: Tribal Designs On Fabric And Other Textiles From Africa And Oceania In Dialogue With Contemporary Artisans.
Enjoying dinner at a rooftop bar and restaurant
If you're looking for a place with a view, there are many restaurants in New York City that have rooftop bars and restaurants. One of my favorite places is the Skylark Rooftop Bar & Lounge at The James Hotel on 57th Street. This location has great views of Central Park and offers live music every night from 7:30-11pm.
The best way to ensure that you'll have an enjoyable meal at one of these types of establishments is by making reservations well in advance (a month or two) so that you don't get turned away when trying to get in on short notice. If possible, try going during off-peak hours where there isn't too much traffic yet; this will help keep your wait time down while also allowing everyone else who works there more time free from stress!
If possible try not eating too much before going out because some restaurants may not allow patrons inside who appear intoxicated already even if they aren't drinking alcohol yet - so make sure not consume anything containing alcohol until AFTER leaving said establishment.
Watching a show at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center or Radio City Music Hall
If you're interested in watching a show at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center or Radio City Music Hall, it's best to start your planning early. All three venues are located in Manhattan and they all have limited seating capacity. Your best bet is to buy tickets as far in advance as possible so that you can secure your spot at one of these world-famous venues.
New York City is one of the most exciting places to visit in the world. It has so many things to see and do, and there's something for everyone here. We hope this guide has helped you get started on planning your own trip!
