Raval Neighborhood

Located near the city centre of Barcelona, El Raval has a very special and interesting character. A district that was once infamous for its unsavoury characters, its culture of crime, and its prostitution corridors, it is now a multicultural neighborhood full of exciting sights and restaurants.

Raval Neighborhood Barcelona

The MACBA, an imposing museum, is located in the heart of El Raval, which is also home to the CCCB, one of Europe's most important urban culture centers. As part of the gentrification process, many new businesses have been built, and a number of historic buildings have been restored and renovated.

The MACBA Barcelona

Rambla del Raval is one of the main streets in the neighborhood, and is the perfect spot for foodies and young adults. This is also the site of many of the city's best street art, which is protected by the city.

Raval was once an agricultural area outside the medieval city walls. It was one of the poorest areas in the city, but it has now been turned into a hip and trendy district. It is filled with restaurants, bars, and unique boutiques.

The area has also been a refuge for many war veterans who fled from the Spanish-American war in 1900. Today, the community is a multicultural one with large Sikh and Muslim communities.

Raval also houses a new University of Barcelona campus. The University has relocated from its previous location on La Rambla to a larger site in the neighborhood.

The neighborhood is also home to one of Barcelona's oldest churches, the Monastery of Sant Pau del Camp. It has dark history, but has recently undergone a huge renovation, including a new building.
