One day itinerary in Ponta Delgada

There are several unique guided tours available in the city of Ponta Delgada. These tours allow you to see the city's many highlights, including the City Hall, Church of San Sebastian, Convent of Our Lady of Hope, and the lush gardens of the José do Canto Botanical Garden. Igreja de Sao Pedro

The Sao Miguel Theater dates back to 1951. One-hour tours allow visitors to see parts of the theater that are normally closed to the public. The theater also has exterior balconies that provide scenic views of the historic center. Outside of the city, the Sao Miguel Pineapple Plantation is a charming excursion. The plantation is open daily to the public, but note that the plantation guides are not necessarily tourism professionals and may speak only Portuguese.

Visitors should also take the time to visit the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Esperanca in the city center. This Convent, which is located in Sao Francisco Square, was founded in 1541. The interior is rich in religious art, including statues and jewels.

Another must-see in Ponta Delgada is the Igreja de Sao Pedro. This 17-18th century church is close to the Portas do Mar and is one of the first places to see on your tour of Ponta Delgada. While it shares similar architecture to churches in other islands in the Azores, this one has a more impressive interior of Baroque style.
