One day itinerary in Padua

When visiting Padua, it is important to explore the city's historic sites. These include Piazza delle Erbe, St. Antony's Basilica, and Musei Civici Eremitani. In addition, there are many other must-see attractions in the city. These attractions include the Oratory of St. George, the Duomo, and more.

Piazza delle Erbe

If you want to get a sense of the history of Padua, head to Piazza delle Erbe. There are several historic buildings that you can visit, including the famous ruins of Saint Anthony of Padua. These structures are stunning, with Romanesque exteriors and Byzantine domes. Inside, you will find beautiful frescoes and artworks. You can also check out the museum, which houses works by famous Italian artists.

St. Antony's Basilica

If you haven't been there yet, you really should. The city is home to the world's oldest academic botanical garden, Italy's largest square, and one of the oldest coffee houses in the country. It also has a Basilica dedicated to St. Antony of Padua, which contains some of the city's most valuable artwork.

Musei Civici Eremitani

The Musei Civici Eremitani is a complex of museums located in Padua's Piazza Eremitani. The museum features an extensive collection of artwork from the Middle Ages and Modern Age, including works by Titian and Giotto. It is also home to an excellent archaeological collection.

Oratory of St. George

Built in 1376 as a free-standing structure, the Oratory of St. George in Padua was designed by Marquis Raimondino de' Lupi as a family funerary chapel. Its interior walls are covered with frescoes. Unfortunately, the frescoes of this oratory have suffered much damage over the centuries. The frescoes were whitewashed during the Napoleonic Wars, but were recently restored.

Sotto il Salone

Sotto il Salone in Padusia is the city's oldest covered food market. Originally, it sold vegetables and fruit in the Piazza delle Erbe. Today, the Piazza is still a market, serving as a general market. Visitors can browse and buy fresh fruits, vegetables, and fish. The area also features a salumeria on the ground floor.
