One day itinerary in Agrigento

The hilltop city of Agrigento is on Sicily's southwest coast. It is known for its ruins, including the ancient city of Akragas, which are located in the Valley of the Temples. This vast archaeological site features well-preserved Greek temples. There is also a regional museum, the Museo Archeologico 'Pietro Griffo', which features artifacts and archaeological discoveries. Another must-see is the Scala dei Turchi, a white-stepped cliff.

Valley of the Temples

If you are planning a day trip to Agrigento, you can visit the Valley of the Temples archaeological park. It includes the Archaeological Museum, visitor's center, toilets, and a 2km walk along the ridge top. You can take the small bus, which leaves every 20 minutes, to reach the valley. Keep in mind, however, that the ground is uneven and can get quite rocky, so bring water and sun protection.

Scala dei Turchi

Agrigento's Scala dei Turchi beach is the most famous sight in the area. This rocky cliff is the most photographed beach in Sicily and possibly the world. The rocky wall and white cliff contrast with the different shades of blue on the beach.

Old town

The Old town of Agrigento is a charming place to visit. Its ancient ruins date back to the 6th century BC, and you can see temples built by Greeks. While Roman ruins are more well-known, you can still find Greek ruins in Agrigento.

Shopping

If you're looking to buy new clothes and accessories, Agrigento's modern shopping district is the ideal choice. The Centro Commerciale Citta dei Templi has dozens of stores and jewelry salons, plus a kid's area with playgrounds and amusements.

Dining

Dining in Agrigento can be an interesting experience. Many of the restaurants feature seasonal dishes that feature local ingredients. Local pasta dishes, such as cavatelli, are popular and often come with vegetables and ricotta.
