It has a lot of history, but also has a lot of great places to visit if you want to get away from the crowds. The city center has many beautiful parks that are full of trees and flowers in springtime. You can see people walking their dogs or playing soccer here on weekends when they're not working at their offices downtown!

Gjirokaster

Located in southern Albania, Gjirokaster is known as the "City of Stones." This UNESCO World Heritage Site is famous for its traditional houses and wind towers.

The city has been inhabited since ancient times; archaeological findings indicate that there was an Illyrian settlement on top of Mount Todorini (a hill near Gjirokaster). The area was later conquered by Romans who named it Dyrrachium, meaning "doorway" or "gateway." It was then occupied by Slavic tribes until they were driven out by invading Albanians in 1072 CE. In 1332, under Ottoman rule, Gjirokaster became an important military base due to its strategic position near the sea but fell into ruin after being abandoned by rebels during an uprising led by Ali Pasha Tepelena in 1810-11 CE when he took control over most areas within Albania except for Durresi territory which later became part of modern day Albania when Kosovo declared independence from Serbia.

Shkoder

Shkoder is the largest city in northern Albania and it has a rich history, dating back to the Illyrian period. The city was first mentioned in written sources in 1336. Shkoder's old town is an UNESCO World Heritage Site that contains many historic buildings from its past as well as being home to many museums and cultural institutions.

Kruje

Kruje is a small town in the central region of Albania. It's known for its castle and historic buildings, which date back to the 15th century. The town has a castle, which was built in 1450 by the Ottoman Empire (an Islamic empire that controlled much of southeastern Europe). Today it's a museum that offers free admission!
