Chateau de Villandry

Located near the Loire river, the Chateau de Villandry is one of the most beautiful and historic castles in the Loire Valley. This castle is open to visitors, and you can enjoy its beautiful interior, and its beautiful gardens. The chateau was once the residence of Jean Le Breton, who was the finance minister for Francis I. During the French Revolution, Villandry was confiscated. After that, several changes took place. However, the property was kept intact by the new landlords.

Chateau de Villandry France

Jean Le Breton had a lot of interest in gardening, and he created a beautiful garden for Villandry. He studied the Italian Renaissance gardens and designed the villa himself. He also built the Chateau Chambord. However, he left the ancient keep and the stone keep of the old fortress intact. Because of its history, the keep was left intact.

In the 18th century, the new landlords of Villandry intended to dismantle the castle. However, the new owners were unable to afford the expenses. The castle was purchased by Napoleon I, who paid 60,000 francs to acquire the property. This allowed Villandry to be restored to its former glory.

The chateau was later purchased by the Carvallo family. They had owned the property for a long time. They restored the estate, including the Renaissance garden. They also created new gardens for the chateau. The interior of the chateau is a reflection of French culture. There are many unique furnishings inside the chateau, and they add to the magical atmosphere of the estate.

The gardens at Villandry are some of the best in the Loire Valley. They are laid out in a series of terraces and each one has its own aesthetic principle. The formal gardens are made up of endless geometric parterres. The water garden is a serene, peaceful contrast to the ornamental gardens. The main pond is based on the shape of a Louis XV mirror.

The Chateau de Villandry gardens are open to visitors, and you can enjoy them all year round. You can visit the castle anytime between 9.00am and 5.00pm. There is also free parking. You can also take a guided tour of the chateau, which includes access to the mediaeval keep. You can also take a guided tour to other local chateaux for a discount on your ticket. Depending on your preference, you can visit the castle and gardens on your own, or enjoy a guided tour accompanied by a bus.

You can also enjoy a meal at the restaurant, La Doulce Terrasse, which is located outside the entrance to the castle. The menu includes local wine, and seasonal fare. The belvedere provides the best views of the formal gardens. The restaurant is open March through November.

The chateau is one of the most visited castles in the Loire Valley. It attracts more than 350,000 visitors per year. It is located less than twenty minutes from Tours, and you can easily get to the castle with a bus.
