The town of Kazanlak is situated in the western part of the historic region of Thrace, which has been under Greek rule since around 400 BC until it came under Ottoman control during the 14th century AD.

The name "Kazanlak" comes from Turkish meaning 'place with many lakes', referring to several lakes around the village that were created by an earthquake thousands years ago when they were filled with hot springs releasing steam bubbles into these lakes which hardened over time forming limestone deposits called travertine or tufa formations (see photo above).

Although Plovdiv doesn't have any beaches nearby, it does have some amazing natural attractions like Belite Brezi (White Rocks), which are located about 40 minutes away from town by car or bus; these rocks were formed by erosion over thousands of years so you can see how they've changed over time!
