One day itinerary in Key West

There are several things to do in Key West, Florida. Here are some of them: the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, Higgs Beach Pier, and Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park. All are well worth a visit, especially if you love the ocean and want to get as close as possible.

Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum

In the 1930s, American writer Ernest Hemingway made Key West his home. His home is still a popular attraction today. It is located at 907 Whitehead Street, near the southern shore of the island. The museum contains a collection of works by Hemingway and other authors.

The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum is a great place to learn about the author's life. The museum houses many of the items that the author used to write his famous novels. Hemingway lived in Key West for two years, when he grew fond of deep water sport fishing.

Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park

When visiting Key West, one of the best things to do is to take a trip to Fort Taylor, a National Historic Landmark and Florida State Park centered on a Civil War-era fort. The fort is located near the southern tip of the island, near the southern end of Key West.

The park is part of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail, which makes it an excellent place to enjoy a day at the water. The park is a great place to paddleboard and kayak, although you should not use a hard-bottomed flotation device in the water.

Higgs Beach Pier

Higgs Beach is just a short walk from the Southernmost Inn. The 17-acre beachfront boasts velvety sand imported from the Caribbean, and offers many activities and attractions - most of which are free! Whether you're a fisherman or just a beach lover, there's something for everyone.

The African Burial Ground memorial is also located in the area. This memorial honors the victims of the transatlantic slave trade. It features engraved bronze plaques and pedestals adorned with African Adinkra symbols. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
