Experience Cambodia like an insider

The best places to visit in Cambodia are not all crammed into one place, though. You'll find the Bou Sra and Chrey Thom waterfalls, the Memang Gold Mines region, the Prasat Preah Vihear temple complex, and Kampot pepper farms in this list. However, a visit to all these attractions isn't necessary. You can choose from a selection of places depending on your budget and interest.

Bou Sra and Chrey Thom waterfalls

Bou Sra Waterfall is a popular destination in Cambodia. It is a multi-stage waterfall with a large swimming basin. Water cascades down from an elevated cliff onto a flat area. It is located 43 kilometers from Sen Monorom in the Mondulkiri province. The waterfall is accessible by road but overnight accommodations are not available.

Bou Sra Waterfall

Chrey Thom Waterfall is also a popular destination in Mondulkiri. This waterfall is surrounded by lush green forests, which makes the site a popular picnic spot. During the rainy season, the falls can reach a height of 11 meters. Both waterfalls are a must-see during a trip to Cambodia.

Memang Gold Mines area

The Memang Gold Mines area is located in the northeastern province of Mondulkiri and is a popular tourist attraction. Visitors can experience the scenic beauty of the surrounding area and see a variety of wildlife. Visitors can also go on a hiking or trekking tour through the Memang Gold Mines area. It is located 45 km away from the town center of Sen monorom, and can be reached within three hours by car.

This area is home to the Memang Gold Mines, which is the country's largest gold mine. This area is located near the Mekong River and the Elephant Valley Project. The area also features the magnificent Bou Sra and Chrey Hom waterfalls. Tourists are also encouraged to visit the picturesque riverside city of Battambang, which is home to a number of colonial buildings. The beautiful riverside city has beautiful views and a pleasant climate, which will ensure that tourists enjoy their time.

Prasat Preah Vihear temple complex

Located on a hillside, the Prasat Preah Vihear Temple Complex is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Cambodia. The site is laid out along a north-south processional axis and features five cruciform gopura with elaborate carvings. At the southern end, there is a beautiful cliff-top temple sanctuary. The site's architecture is a little different from the Angkor temple mountains, but it serves the same purpose: it is a stylised representation of Mount Meru.

The temple complex is located about 30km from Siem Reap. From Siem Reap, it is easiest to take a taxi to get there. Otherwise, you can take public transport but you should make sure to check the designated routes and potholes.

Kampot pepper farms

Visiting the Kampot pepper farms is a must-do when in the region. The plantations produce a distinctive type of pepper, and many of the world's best chefs use them in their dishes. They are also a great way to help support the local community. The pepper farms supply local schools with school supplies and bicycles, and you can even take cooking classes.

The peppercorns are harvested annually between February and May. The harvesting process involves removing the peppercorns from their stems and boiling them for about two minutes. The peppercorns are then dried in the sun. The peppercorns come in two varieties: red and black. Red pepper is slightly hotter than white pepper, and goes best with meat. However, it is expensive. You can buy red peppercorns in the U.S. or Europe for about $100 per ounce.

Mekong Turtle Conservation Centre

While visiting Cambodia, you may want to make a stop at the Mekong Turtle Conservation Centre. The center is a nonprofit organization that helps bring back endangered species of freshwater turtles. The turtles are raised at the centre and released back into the river as soon as they are old enough. A monk at the center oversees the conservation work. The center also helps rural communities build disaster-resilient communities and adapt to climate change.

The Mekong Turtle Conservation Centre is located near Kratie, Cambodia. The center is home to several species of turtles, including the endangered Cantor's softshell turtle. Visitors can take a tour to see these beautiful turtles and help to protect their habitat.

Guided tours in Cambodia

If you are planning a trip to Cambodia, you should consider booking a guided tour. Although you can visit the country on your own, there are many things that you may miss. For example, you might only see certain cities or regions, or you might not understand the culture. On the other hand, a luxury guided tour helps you to make the most of your trip, and it also offers a high level of comfort.

Find a tour operator

Whether you are short on time or have specific interests, a guided tour is the best option for you. These tours take the hassle out of traveling by providing a group leader who is familiar with the local area. These guides also provide suggestions on things to do and places to eat. Plus, they'll introduce you to local people you might not otherwise have the opportunity to meet.

A Cambodia tour operator can offer many different types of tours, ranging from day trips to multi-day tours. Many companies provide pre-packaged trips, while others offer custom-designed tours that fit your specific interests and needs. Angkor & Asia Adventure Travel is one such company that can arrange your ideal vacation for you. Although these tours are not the cheapest, they are often much cheaper than similar tours offered by other companies.

Avoid touts

When traveling to Cambodia, you should take special care to avoid touts. Even though Cambodians are extremely polite and helpful, there are some unscrupulous people who will try to take advantage of you. It's wise to protect your personal belongings by not carrying any valuable items in your backpack. Having valuables on your back will make it difficult to move around and will make you a target for scammers. It's also important to avoid touts around Angkor Wat. You can avoid them by being polite and ignoring their requests.

Be sure to wear modest clothing. Cambodians are very modest in their beliefs and attire, and wearing shorts or tights is not appropriate. Miniskirts and plunging necklines should also be avoided.

Avoid Angkor Wat

The ancient city of Angkor was once the capital city of the Khmer Empire, which ruled over much of Southeast Asia during the Middle Ages. It was built between 800AD and 1300AD under the leadership of Yasovarman I. At its height, the city was home to 1 million people, equivalent to 0.1% of the world's population. The city covered a huge area - 1,000 square kilometres - and was a thriving metropolis, with sophisticated technology that helped support its ever-growing population.

Angkor Wat

The best way to see Angkor Wat is by exploring it outside of the most popular sites. The vast complex is enormous - over four hundred square kilometres - and can be overwhelming to explore. You should book a minimum of three days to see everything.

Avoid Sihanoukville

If you're taking a Cambodia guided tour, you may be told to skip the sleepy city of Sihanoukville. Located on a peninsula in the Gulf of Thailand, the town was once a shining jewel in Cambodia's tourism industry. Unfortunately, construction and tourism has done a number on the city, and many reputable tour operators have stopped visiting the area.

There are many ways to explore Sihanoukville independently. You can download GPSmyCity for your iPhone or Android phone, which has maps and GPS navigation. The app is available offline, so you can use it even when you don't have internet access.
